The words goodbye are hard to accept but often celebrated when the person leaving is a great achiever. It was a a gathering of joyful moments on 30 October, 2018 as the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group in Malawi treated their outgoing Country Director, Mr. Frank Mvula to a farewell cocktail reception at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC). Mr. Mvula served in the office from October 2017. During his tenure in office, among others, Mr Mvula successfully developed the Malawi country strategy, led dialogue with the African Bank and other monetary bodies and ensured the efficient and effective implementation of projects like the Mzuzu-Nkhata Bay Road in the Northern part of Malawi.
In his speech, Mr. Mvula applauded the Malawi government and the diplomatic group in Malawi for their relentless support rendered to him and AfDB throughout his time in office. He further expressed his gratitude for the cooperation the African Union Southern African Regional Office (AU-SARO) led by Dr. Leopold Auguste Ngomo brought to AfDB and the rest of the Diplomatic group in Malawi in quest for various projects that promote unity and development in Malawi and Southern Africa region.
Speaking on behalf of the Malawi Government, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Dr. Goodall Gondwe applauded Mvula for the job well done. Dr. Gondwe said that Mr. Mvula is one of the few people that theAfrican Continent needs in the field of Economy. He added that AfDB under Mr. Mvula has always cooperated with the Government of Malawi which has fostered development of different projects in the country.
The cocktail was graced by high level officials from the Malawi Government and the Diplomatic group in Malawi. Mr. Mvula will now be serving as a Director of Fiduciary and Inspection Department of the African Development Bank Group in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire.
